During a recent trip to Poland last month, our cellist Lucas slipped, bruised his eye and dislocated his arm.
You can play the cello with one eye, but unfortunately not with a numb arm.
Was he dumb or did he slip on a banana skin left by a sore composer whose quartet was not programmed?
Or worst still were the Gods unhappy with him.
When Lucas told his surgeon he played the cello and wanted to get back to playing very soon, his surgeon had the brilliant idea of inserting metal tailpiece into his arm. This helped a lot and he is well on his way to recovery and will be playing again by the new year.
We were very fortunate to be able to replace Lucas with the master of contemporary music cellists, Pierre Strauch who will be joining us for concerts in November.
