The Siemens Prize is given for ‘lifetime achievement’; the Arditti Quartet has earned it by completely transforming the role of the string quartet in contemporary composition. Since its launch in 1972, the prize’s recipients have included Karajan, Bernstein, Pollini, Abbado, Menuhin, Britten, Messiaen, Lutoslawski, Boulez and Stockhausen, to name just a few. The Ardittis are thus in world-class company. This is the first time it has gone to an ensemble and also the first time it has been awarded to a specialist performer of contemporary music. This work includes Claron McFadden, soprano and the Nash Ensemble, as well as the Arditti Quartet. The work alternates between Birtwistle’s first string quartet, his 9 movements and his ‘Celan Songs’.
The Gramophone Award in the category best contemporary CD was given for their recording on Aeon of Dusapin's 6th (Hinterland) and 7th quartet's (Open Time). Hinterland is written for quartet and orchestra and featured the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by Pascal Rophé.

Nishimura's Third Quartet 'Avian' which was recorded on the Arditti's recently released Nishimura CD for Camerata has been awarded the National Arts Festival Grand Prize by the Agency of Cultural Affairs in Japan. The is an annual prize which is only given to one work and can be selected from either the classical, contemporary or jazz world. The recordings took place in May 2000 in Kusatsu, Japan in the presence of the composer.
